Mother of creation is a collaboration between the American singer Madonna and well-known NFT artist Beeple. The NFTs have proved that sex sells in Web3.
The Mother of Creation is a collection of three NFTs. Madonna and Beeple collaborated to give birth to this collection. They will donate the sales profits to three non-profit organizations focused on women and children globally. All the NFTs originated from a 3D scan of Madonna.
“When Mike and I decided to collaborate on this project a year ago, I was excited to have the opportunity to share my vision of the world as a mother and an artist with Mike’s own unique point of view. It’s been an amazing journey building this together from an intellectual idea to an emotional story, giving birth to art. I wanted to investigate the concept of creation, not only the way a child enters the world through a woman’s vagina, but also the way an artist gives birth to creativity. Most importantly we wanted to use this opportunity to benefit mothers and children who are most in need right now.” ― says Madonna on the official website.
The art behind Madonna NFTs
The Mother of Nature NFT depicts Madonna lying in a cold laboratory with no sign of life. An opening from her vagina gives way to a branch that transforms into a full vibrant tree. The NFT was sold for 170.5 ETH. An anonymous wallet holds it additionally with five CryptoPunks and many other notable NFTs.
The Mother of Evolution NFT shows a post-apocalyptic scene. It touches on the metamorphosis journey of butterflies, one of the most beautiful creations in nature, and a sign of hope. It is a metaphor to show that humans continue to give birth, no matter what destruction or oppression we face, according to the description of art on the official website.
adamlindemann.eth bought the NFT for 72.05 ETH. They later transferred the NFT to an anonymous wallet that holds NFTs from CryptoPunk, TwinFlames, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Meebits, and other notable collections.
Mother of Technology takes place in a beautiful forest, depicting how science can also give birth to light in the world, but only if used with the right consciousness, according to the description of NFT. MoonPayHQ bought the NFT for 66.55 ETH.
Madonna NFTs to support women and children
In total, Madonna raised 309 ETH from the NFT sale. According to a Twitter user, that was equivalent to $625,592.50 as per the market price of May. The money raised goes to 3 charities, Voices of Children Foundation, City of Joy Foundation, and Black Mama’s Bail Out.
The Voices of Children Foundation works to support the women and children affected by the war in Ukraine. At the same time, The City of Joy is a transformational leadership community for women survivors of severe violence. Black Mama’s Bail Out is a campaign to bail out caregivers from jails and migrant detention centers before Mother’s Day.
Sex Sells in Web3
Though all the NFTs belonged to the same collection, the Mother of Nature was sold for more than the sum of the price of the other two NFTs. According to Shirley M. Mueller, “Perhaps this is because Nature elicits positive emotions or due to the fact that for some the origin of the tree suggests pornography. She adds that “Whatever the case, multiple research papers have found that sex sells, and certainly Nature seems to be supportive along these lines.”
Not just Madonna NFTs, there are projects like Pokmi, a blockchain-based decentralized porn platform. It is driven by a strong community of grown-ups and porn lovers and powered by POKENs tokens, according to litepaper.
According to Twitter users, sex would blow up in Web3. They believe that NFT porn will be a good market. Web3 could prove capable of playing a role in providing greater economic independence and safety to sex workers.
