Optimism 2022: A Year in Review

Wow. 2022 has been quite the decade.

As we prepare to leave it behind us and greet the new year, we thought we’d take a look back on another year of Optimism.

In 2022, OP governance was born.
In April, we introduced the Optimism Collective, and soon after, the Token House went live.
RetroPGF 2 will allocate 10m OP to public goods early next year.
OP Labs shipped the AttestationStation—a permissionless data primitive built for reputation networks.
Optimism Bedrock was released, incorporating lessons from running OP Mainnet to create a modular, performant codebase—the OP Stack.
Key contributions were made towards EIP-4844, advancing Ethereum’s rollup-centric roadmap.
Industry heavyweights like Aave and OpenSea joined the Optimism Ecosystem.

On the protocol side, 2022 was dedicated to building an Optimistic codebase designed for longevity and efficiency.

The release of Bedrock marks a milestone, offering low L1 data costs, multi-client support, security enhancements, and increased throughput.

The OP Goerli testnet upgrade to Bedrock goes live on January 12, with mainnet to follow in Q1.

Bedrock lays the foundation for future developments, supporting modular blockchains and public goods funding.

Optimism’s role in scaling Ethereum is underscored by contributions to EIP-4844, set to enhance Ethereum mainnet by mid-2023.

The City of Optimism saw significant growth in 2022:

Strong growth was observed across the Optimism Ecosystem, with notable dApp deployments including Aave and OpenSea.

2022 witnessed the establishment of the Token House, driving digital democratic governance within the Optimism Collective.

Over 155k wallets are actively participating in governance, with 55.7M OP in grants approved to date.

To commemorate the year, Optimism is releasing a free-to-mint NFT for Mirror newsletter subscribers.

Minting is available until December 31st, celebrating a year of achievements at Optimism.

2022 was a monumental year for Optimism, paving the way for continued growth and innovation in 2023.
