In just over six months as an NFT artist, Gunnar Tarsa, also known as Scribble Warlock, has established himself with more than 10 collections on Avalanche. His portfolio includes over 650 unique abstract illustrations, each telling stories within the interconnected universe known as the Chromasphere. Despite the diversity in themes and characters, Scribble Warlock’s work is unified by a distinct, instantly recognizable style.
His creations range from introspective explorations depicted in color-deprived environments to chaotic yet whimsical paintings of animated fruit.
Exploring CMYK and Creative Process
In his artwork, Scribble Warlock utilizes CMYK colors—cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black)—commonly used in printing to produce a wide spectrum of colors. He employs paint pens or digital tools like Procreate to bring his visions to life.
Starting with free-sketching, Gunnar allows his characters to emerge organically from the canvas, akin to sculptures emerging from stone. He navigates the direction of each piece as it unfolds, exploring various ideas and concepts.
From Childhood Passion to NFT Innovation
Based in Georgia, Gunnar creates from a simple desk in his bedroom, often alongside his artistic partner. He frequently shares his creative process through live streams on Twitch, showcasing his “chaotic scribblings” to a growing audience.
Having nurtured a passion for art since childhood, Gunnar rediscovered his calling after a move from New Jersey to Georgia. He pursued formal art education at the University of Georgia, where he honed his skills and artistic identity.
Entering the NFT Space with Avalanche
Gunnar’s journey into the NFT space was catalyzed by discovering Avalanche, attracted by its low entry barriers, minimal transaction costs, and eco-friendly blockchain design. Overcoming initial hesitations about starting on Ethereum due to high gas fees and environmental concerns, Gunnar found a supportive community on Avalanche through platforms like Twitter Spaces.
Under the persona of Scribble Warlock, Gunnar began releasing NFT collections that reflect his influences from comic book legends like Mike Mignola and Andrew MacLean, as well as the artistic freedom embodied by Keith Haring.
