Interview Highlights with Takasugu Murata, GREE

GREE’s Legacy and Innovation in Japan

Founded in 2004, GREE quickly emerged as a pioneer in Japan’s mobile internet sector. They introduced the world’s first mobile social game, Fishing Star, in 2007, and have since diversified into mobile games, the metaverse, anime, commerce, data analytics, and manga. Notably, Google Play awarded GREE’s Heaven Burns Red as the game of the year in 2022, while their metaverse platform REALITY surpassed 10 million downloads globally.

Introduction of BLRD: GREE’s New Web3 Gaming Studio

BLRD, launched by GREE last July, focuses on running validators, developing Web3 games, and investing in Web3 startups. Collaborating closely with Ava Labs, BLRD aims to pioneer innovative approaches in the Web3 gaming sphere.

Web3 Gaming and Blockchain Integration

According to Takasugu, Web3 technology addresses critical issues in Web2 gaming, such as user investment retention and game longevity. GREE sees blockchain as a solution to create more user-friendly games and is currently developing their first Web3 game on Avalanche.

Future of Web3 Gaming on Avalanche

BLRD plans to create entirely new games tailored for Web3, rather than converting existing Web2 games. They are committed to leveraging Avalanche’s capabilities, such as Subnets, to ensure seamless and reliable gameplay experiences independent of network congestion.

Running Avalanche Validators

By operating multiple Avalanche validators, GREE aims to contribute to the network’s security and performance while gaining insights crucial for their game development initiatives.

Collaboration with Ava Labs

GREE and Ava Labs are set to collaborate closely to launch globally appealing Web3 games on Avalanche, promising exciting developments for the gaming community.
