Remarkable Performance Insights from the Fantom Sonic Closed Testnet
The Fantom Sonic mainnet is on the horizon, and we’ve already upgraded some of the Foundation’s archive nodes on the current mainnet to Sonic, achieving a 95% reduction in operational costs. As we prepare for this highly anticipated launch, let’s revisit the exceptional performance observed during the Sonic closed testnet over the past few months.
Overview of the Sonic Closed Testnet
The closed testnet was designed to showcase the maximum theoretical limits of Sonic technology by simulating traffic on a network visible to the public. Here’s a quick recap of the testnet’s performance metrics:
2,000 TPS — Realistic Traffic
At the launch of the closed testnet on October 24, 2023, it was configured to process a variety of synthetic transactions that mimic realistic traffic. This included:
- Token transfers
- Token mints
- Complex multi-step swaps
By simulating transactions similar to those on the current Fantom Opera mainnet, we achieved:
- ~2,000 TPS at ~1-second finality
4,000 TPS — Token Swaps
On November 27, 2023, the testnet was reconfigured to process exclusively ERC-20 swaps, showcasing the potential of Sonic technology for next-generation decentralized exchanges (DEXs). This configuration allowed us to highlight the testnet’s performance with a predominant transaction type:
- ~4,000 TPS at ~1.3-second finality
10,000 TPS — Token Transfers
On January 17, 2024, the testnet was further reconfigured to process only ERC-20 token transfers. This is critical for applications such as next-generation wallets and payment providers that rely on ERC-20 tokens to represent various currencies:
- ~10,000 TPS at ~1.6-second finality
Summary of Testnet Performance
The Sonic closed testnet demonstrated the following impressive performance metrics:
- ~2,000 TPS at ~1-second finality — Realistic Traffic
- ~4,000 TPS at ~1.3-second finality — Token Swaps
- ~10,000 TPS at ~1.6-second finality — Token Transfers
With the mainnet launch just around the corner, we’re on the verge of transforming these impressive testnet results into an innovative, next-generation network. Stay tuned on X for more updates regarding Fantom Sonic.
