Optimism Airdrops 10.3 Million OP Tokens in Latest Round

Optimism (OP), a leading Layer 2 blockchain, successfully completed its fifth airdrop, distributing 10.3 million OP tokens. These tokens, valued at approximately $16 million, were distributed to 54,700 user addresses. The airdrop primarily rewarded users engaged with the Superchain ecosystem, which is developed through the OP Stack.

Active Users in Superchain Receive Rewards

This latest airdrop from Optimism targeted users active on various networks within the Superchain, such as OP Mainnet, Base, Zora, Mode, Metal, Fraxtal, Cyber, Mint, Swan, Redstone, Lisk, Derive, BOB, Xterio, Polynomial, Race, and Orderly. Wallets that interacted with at least 20 different contracts in the Superchain between March 15 and September 15, 2024, were eligible to receive the airdrop. Users have until February 13, 2025, to claim their tokens.

According to Optimism’s announcement, “Airdrop #5 rewards strong users contributing to the growth of the Superchain ecosystem.”

Additional Rewards Offered in Airdrop #5

In contrast to previous airdrops, this latest distribution included additional bonus conditions. Individual users could increase their rewards by meeting criteria such as:

• Transferring a specific amount of OP tokens
• Interacting with seven different networks within the Superchain

To date, Optimism has distributed over 265 million OP tokens through five separate airdrops. Approximately 550 million OP tokens remain reserved for future distributions. The first airdrop occurred on May 31, 2022, followed by the second on February 8, 2023. The third airdrop, which took place on September 13, 2023, distributed 19.4 million OP tokens to around 32,000 addresses participating in the Optimism Collective delegation activities, with a value of $26 million at the time. The fourth airdrop occurred in February 2024.

As of this article’s preparation, OP tokens are trading at $1.55. Recent data shows the altcoin’s price has dropped by 5% in the last 24 hours. The circulating supply of OP tokens has reached 1.3 billion, with a market capitalization of $1.9 billion.
