Crypto Events Shift Focus to Intelligent Discourse Amidst Bear Market
Crypto events in recent times have seen a shift in focus from lavish entertainment to more intelligent discourse on regulation and taxes. The extended bear market has forced event organizers to cut down on extravagance, resulting in more well-thought-out, intelligent questions being asked by attendees.
Crypto conferences typically attract a diverse audience from the crypto space, ranging from high-level executives, founders, influencers, and everyday users. Despite the reduced entertainment, Tiffany Fong, a crypto vlogger who gained fame from interviewing former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, believes that the enthusiasm for crypto remains strong, and events present an opportunity to meet other industry players.
According to Fong, attendees have pointed out that events are much tamer this year, and huge DJs that performed in previous conferences during the bull markets are no longer present. Fong, who attended both Bitcoin Miami 2023 and NFT NYC 2023, believes that the focus on intelligent discourse is a positive development.
XRP Las Vegas and the Future of Crypto
The XRP Las Vegas conference took place on May 6 and 7, attracting the “XRP Army” and other fanatics. Attendees expressed great optimism about the future of crypto, although they also voiced their frustrations about the ongoing regulatory uncertainty. Pro-XRP lawyer John Deaton said that attendees asked intelligent questions, but the frustration in their questions was palpable.
Deaton noted that the frustration was directed towards the SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s “regulation by enforcement” approach to crypto. The SEC has recently taken action against several crypto firms, further increasing the regulatory uncertainty that the industry faces.
Regulation a Key Topic at Binance Australia Meetup
Regulation was by far the most popular topic of discussion among attendees at Binance Australia’s recent meetup event. According to Ben Rose, the general manager for Binance Australia and New Zealand, crypto tax was another topic of interest for attendees. Despite the bear market, Rose noted that there is still interest from newcomers, with many asking beginner-level questions.
Rose emphasized that Australian crowds are starting to get excited about a potential bull run given that the price of Bitcoin has been creeping up.
