MMR is a ranking assigned to each player to assess their skills so that they can be matched with the appropriate opponent. This rank also determines the amount of Smooth Love Potion (SLP) — the game’s token — a player can acquire for every victory in the player-vs-player (PVP) arena.
The bug that appeared last week allowed a player to win games during their duels in the PVP arena without actually playing. The opponent would not be able to load into the game and would suffer an automatic loss. In this way, the person exploiting the bug could climb up the rankings and gain additional SLP tokens.
Axie Infinity is an NFT-based online video game developed by Vietnamese studio Sky Mavis. The project still happens to be in its development phase; as a result, bugs and glitches have plagued the Axie community more than once. Axie Infinity was released in 2020. The game’s popularity erupted in the middle of 2021 when it saw more than 2 million daily active players.
