Binance’s Chief Strategy Officer Confirms Departure Amid Reports of US Resignations
Binance’s chief strategy officer Patrick Hillmann has officially announced his departure from the cryptocurrency exchange. This development comes in light of reports indicating the resignation of other prominent compliance executives in the United States.
On July 6, Patrick Hillmann took to Twitter to share the news, stating, “I am leaving [Binance], but I’m doing so on good terms.” After spending two years with the company, Hillmann expressed his desire to pursue new challenges. He also mentioned that he is expecting his second child, making it an opportune time for him to step aside.
According to a separate report from Bloomberg, Eleanor Hughes, Binance’s head of legal for APAC and MENA, is set to assume the role of general counsel, replacing Ng. Meanwhile, Noah Perlamn, who joined as chief compliance officer in February, will continue to serve in his position at the company.
Binance referred to a tweet by its CEO, Zhao Changpeng, when asked for comment regarding the matter. The tweet presumably addresses the ongoing situation surrounding the resignations.
Recent reports suggest that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is conducting an investigation into Binance over allegations of allowing Russians to use the exchange in violation of U.S. sanctions.
In June, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit against Binance, accusing the exchange of offering unregistered securities, misusing customer funds, and other charges.
The Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) also filed a lawsuit against Binance in March, claiming that the exchange failed to properly register with the regulatory authority.
