Project 3333: Spreading Japanese art and culture through NFTs

Blockchain is changing the future of Japanese art, making Japanese art more accessible to people across the globe and spreading the beauty of Japanese art and culture. There is something distinct and varied about Japanese art, which can vary from a peaceful painting of the Japanese countryside to a colorful surrealist depiction of an alternative universe in anime. This variation makes Japanese art appealing to all, no matter what their tastes.

Despite the appeal of Japanese art, some Japanese artists struggle to spread their work and raise funds to continue their work. NFTs, which are non-fungible tokens of digital content linked to the blockchain, have allowed such artists to reach a wide-ranging audience and make further income from their work.

Known Japanese artists have also taken advantage of the well-earned NFT craze to sell their art. In October, the iconic anime series “One Piece” publisher Shueisha created ten luxury prints of memorable scenes from the show and digital versions of the artwork as NFTs at $4,500 each. More than 3,000 people across the world competed in a lottery to get their hands on a copy, but only 20 were granted one.

One of the reasons people rush to buy Japanese NFT digital art is that it is difficult to duplicate. The fact that the artwork is on the blockchain means that it can be verified by the public and that it is easy to trace two identical digital files. In many ways, the blockchain provides the same assurances to the authenticity of digital art as an art gallery would, making it a very viable medium of selling art.

Other projects, such as Project 3333, have propped up with a mission to spread Japanese art and culture through NFTs. Project 3333 is a one-of-a-kind NFT project that has stored 3,333 unique Japan-inspired digital artworks on the blockchain.

The project has created and curated thousands of unique art pieces, inspired by all things Japanese that everyone loves, ranging from Japan’s streets, nature, food, culture and anime. When NFTs came to the fore, Project 3333’s artist began curating various artworks. These artworks are then divided into various themes, which are then randomly selected by Project 3333’s generative software to create a unique NFT embodying a specific artists’ work.

Project 3333’s artist knew the potential that blockchain technology and NFTs could have for individuals across the world, and Japan when he started the project. By making Japanese art more accessible, people would increasingly appreciate all that Japan and its culture have to offer, leading people to support Japanese art, artists and increase the likelihood that they travel to Japan to experience hands-on what the country has to offer themselves.
