NFL Star Odell Beckham Jr. to Receive His $4.25M LA Rams Salary in Bitcoin

The American football star announced on Monday that he had entered into a partnership with Cash App, which will see him take his salary for the 2021-2022 NFL season in BTC.

Beckham, who had just recently been signed by the Los Angeles Rams shortly after he was released by the Cleveland Browns earlier this month, would be earning a $750,000 base salary, $500,000 signing bonus, and up to $3 million in other incentives, bringing his total salary to a whopping $4.25 million for the season.

At the time of writing, bitcoin’s price is sitting around $56,500, which would bring Beckham’s salary to be worth around 75 BTC.

Additionally, the football star announced that he would be giving away $1 million in bitcoin to his Twitter followers. To qualify for the giveaway, fans are required to reply to his tweet with their Cash App ($Cashtag) and the hashtag #OBJBTC.

The partnership deal with Cash App is not Beckham’s first foray into the crypto space. The football star had earlier purchased a CryptoPunk NFT, which is currently his Twitter profile picture.

Not the First

The cryptocurrency industry is gradually revolutionizing every aspect of the world’s economic system, including the sports industry.

With the latest development, Beckham joins the list of sports stars who have placed their bets on the largest digital asset, bitcoin, and either received their salaries in it or became a part of crypto-focused enterprises.

Earlier this month, NFL star Aaron Rodgers also teamed up with CashApp to receive part of his salary in bitcoin.

The professional footballer revealed that he is excited about the leading cryptocurrency because he believes “it’s the future of money, it’s valuable, super secure, and no one can mess with it.”

In September, Super Bowl champion Tom Brady said he would “love” to receive some of his salary in BTC, ETH, or SOL.

Brady, a strong Bitcoin proponent, had made an earlier foray into the crypto space when he took an equity stake in the cryptocurrency trading platform FTX, along with his wife, Gisele Bündchen.
