According to the whitepaper, this would give people control of their own identity so they could freely choose where to store their data and those who can access it.
Buenos Aires has revealed its plans to create a digital identity platform, which according to a city official, will be available by early 2023. The development follows the city’s commitment to give its residents control over their personal data.
The project involves the Proof of Humanity project contributor, Santiago Siri, who also serves as a developer for the Universal Basic Income (UBI) ERC-20 token. Other participants include Koibank CEO and Co-founder, Leo Elduayen, who is the face behind the Latin American asset popular tokenization and blockchain financial infrastructure firm.
There is also Diego Gutierrez Zaldivar, the famed founder, and owner of RSK Labs operating a smart contract blockchain securely running on the Bitcoin protocol.
Per reports from Buenos Aires Secretary of Innovation and Digital Transformation, Diego Fernández, the digital identity platform is going to be decentralized, public, and permissionless. The secretary also explained how the platform would be accessible to firms, government authorities as well as companies looking to mint verifiable identities absent any approval whatsoever, even from the city.
Fernández said that the platform will hit the market between the last quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023. The City’s Secretary of Innovation and Digital Transformation also published a whitepaper containing a proposal for the platform.
The project draws inspiration from the city’s commitment to developing a new paradigm wherein there is proficiency in terms of transaction security. Buenos Aires is also motivated to achieve a space where document verification is speedy, private, effective, and efficient.
According to the whitepaper, this would give people control of their own identity so they could freely choose where to store their data and those who can access it.
Available information has revealed that the platform’s development would be drawn over a 6-months period in which the next 90 days would be used to determine its architecture and blockchain.
The city plans a project whose sole objective is privacy preservation while also ensuring that it would be compatible with other blockchain techs in the nearest future.
Buenos Aires’ digital identity platform would be self-sovereign, meaning that it would establish trust between the parties concerned, while at the same time guaranteeing the authenticity of data as well as attestations. This comes without having to store user data or any personal information on the blockchain.
