Cardano Achieves Interoperability with Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Tron, and 6 Additional Blockchains

Introduction

Wanchain has recently announced the launch of decentralized bridges for the Cardano network, facilitating connectivity between Cardano and eleven prominent blockchain networks.

Supported Networks

The decentralized bridges initiative by Wanchain allows Cardano to connect with the following major blockchain networks:

  • Bitcoin
  • Ethereum
  • Arbitrum
  • Astar Network
  • Avalanche
  • BNB Chain
  • OKT Chain
  • Optimism
  • Polygon
  • Tron
  • Wanchain

This development comes more than a year after Wanchain’s initial announcement about deploying cross-chain bridges on the Cardano network.

Seamless Asset Transfers

Wanchain’s Cardano Bridges have simplified the process of transferring assets between Cardano and the supported blockchain networks. Users can efficiently move Cardano-based assets to the connected blockchains and vice versa.

According to Wanchain’s announcement, “Wanchain’s Cardano Bridges advance interoperability, enabling numerous assets including ADA, other native Cardano tokens, all ERC-20 tokens, and several other notable assets to move seamlessly between Cardano, any EVM-based network, and select non-EVM networks.”

Supported Assets

The recently launched bridge permits the transfer of a specific set of assets. The supported assets for each blockchain include:

  • Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Ethereum (ADA, BTC, ETH, USDC, USDT)
  • Arbitrum (USDC, USDT)
  • Astar (USDT)
  • Avalanche (BTC, USDC, USDT)
  • BNB Chain (BTC, USDC, USDT)
  • OKT Network (USDT)
  • Optimism (USDC, USDT)
  • Polygon (USDC, USDT)
  • Tron (USDC, USDT)
  • Wanchain (ADA, BTC, ETH, USDC, USDT, WAN)

Remarkably, these assets have been integrated into the Cardano network through the Wanchain bridges.

Wanchain stated, “This is the first time that fiat-backed stablecoins, in the form of USDT and USDC, are available on the Cardano mainnet.”

Developer Contributions

The Wanchain team emphasized that the Cardano Bridges project is a significant milestone resulting from years of dedicated effort. The team incorporated various technical features to achieve interoperability between Cardano and other diverse blockchain networks.

Haskell smart contracts were implemented to support cross-chain transactions on Cardano. Additionally, bridge nodes were upgraded to enable UTXO-type transactions to interact with Cardano’s smart contracts.

Furthermore, Wanchain collaborated with Input Output Global (IOG), Cardano’s research and development company, to implement necessary network changes. IOG introduced native support for Schnorr signatures and the Secp256k1 curve on the Cardano network.
