Today, EarthFund has launched a sustainability-focused DAO on its platform to aid in addressing the climate crisis, CQ has learned.
Dubbed the Carbon Removal DAO, the cause is the brainchild of Cambridge University associate climate researcher Lucy Tweed, Ph.D. Leveraging EarthFund, the DAO will allow her to conduct research into carbon storage and grow a global community that contributes to fighting climate change.
According to the release shared with CQ, the project will be a community that will focus on funding sustainability projects, such as carbon-rich ecosystem protection projects, restoration initiatives, regenerative agriculture, and studies on carbon removal technologies.
“Every project will [be] community-first,” the announcement reads. “[This makes] sure that climate action doesn’t come at the cost of local livelihoods.”
Tweed said that individual action is important, but accelerating climate action through a concerted effort and creating scalable models for “broader systematic change” would be better.
“The problem is that there hasn’t been a tool for collective, meaningful, and coordinated global action until now,” the doctor said. “Carbon Removal [DAO] is an accessible and inclusive community where people can come together as a collective to support sustainable community-led carbon removal projects and bring about real change.”
Adam Boalt, the CEO of EarthFund, added to this, saying, “This is what we built EarthFund for — to give ordinary people the tools they need to bring about real change on a global scale. We can’t wait to see what the Carbon Removal DAO achieves.”
Consequently, EarthFund will drop the CarbonCommons tokens to its community members on July 27. The note clarified that the token will be listed on a decentralized exchange but can be swapped for 1Earth on the EarthFund platform.
Notably, CarbonCommons holders can vote on projects and proposals and will get rewarded in USDT for their involvement in the cause. They will join Dr. Tweed, climate experts, and advocates in an exclusive Discord channel.
