Ethereum 2.0 Client Teku Releases New Version for Merge

Ethereum 2.0 client Teku has released version v22.8.1, considered as another major step toward the Merge.

As per the official announcement, it is a required update that keeps the Bellatrix upgrade on track for September 6th that will kick off the long-awaited process of the Merge and set everything in motion.

  • All mainnet nodes will have to upgrade to the required Teku version to transition to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) and include connecting to a local execution client’s engine API.
  • The validators, on the other hand, are required to set a default fee recipient.
  • Until the execution client is updated, Teku will regularly report an error saying – “Merge transition configuration error.”
  • Only after the execution client has been updated will there be no reports of errors or any other warnings about the client being unavailable.
  • There will be a 14-day period between the Bellatrix upgrade and the Merge. That’s the length of time that will pass before the network reaches a specific total terminal difficulty (TTD). This will activate the Merge, which is arguably the most significant event in the cryptocurrency industry for 2022.
  • After countless delays, the date for the upgrade was set for September 19th. However, reports suggest that it might come sooner than expected.
  • Ethereum core dev Tim Beiko and Prysmatic Labs’ co-founder Terence Tsao speculated that the Merge can occur when the TTTD hits 58750000000000000000000, which might happen as soon as September 15th.
