zkSync will support scripting languages for EVM-based apps such as Solidity and Vyper. The mainnet launch for zkSync 2.0 shall happen before the end of 2022.
On Wednesday, July 20, Ethereum Layer-2 scalability solution zkSync announced that it will go live on the mainnet within the next three months. Matter Labs, the project’s developer made the announcement on Wednesday.
As per the announcement, zkSync 2.0 will also be compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) upon its launch. The project also seeks to become the first zk proof-based scaling solution for EVM smart contracts. This shall also be available in the live-production environment upon its mainnet launch. The official announcement notes:
“Launching the first EVM compatible zkRollup into production will be a huge accomplishment, and we want to thank our development team, our ecosystem partners, and our community for your patience and support as we have set out on a journey to build the №1 Layer 2 solution for developers. It starts with our mission: to accelerate the mass adoption of crypto for personal sovereignty”.
ZK stands for zero-knowledge and zkSync is a scaling technology based on zero-knowledge roll-ups. ZkRollups is one of the popular methods used by Layer-2 networks to facilitate cheaper and faster transactions on the Ethereum mainnet. Other such solutions include sidechains, optimistic rollups, and state channels.
Ethereum Layer-2 Scaling Solution zkSync Supporting Apps
As per the announcement, zkSync will support scripting languages for EVM-based apps such as Solidity and Vyper. Furthermore, the announcement noted that zkSync 2.0 will have backward compatibility with the older versions of the solutions. This will make it easy for the project developers to upgrade to the new version.
The mainnet launch of zkSync shall happen in three different steps. The first stage of launch will happen in November without any external projects. Later, in the second stage, there will be audits followed by a fair alpha launch.
The final stage shall be the full mainnet launched that will happen before the end of 2022. Matter Labs has provided a complete roadmap for the zkSync mainnet launch. “Each update to our public roadmap will be paired with AMA session that will include access to our founding CEO, chief product officer, and head of engineering,” they added.
Furthermore, the company also noted that zkSync 3.0 shall be coming faster than one’s expectations.
