Ford’s Mustang Mach-E debuted at the end of 2019 and started deliveries in 2020. The 2022 Mustang Mach-E starts at just under $44,000.
For the past two years, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) has been leading the Consumer Reports Top Picks with its Model 3. However, this year, Tesla Model 3 was surpassed by Mustang Mach-E produced by Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F). According to Consumer Reports, they have several key criteria that a car must meet, and Ford Mach-E is the only one of its Top Picks that not only met the requirements but also received additional points.
To be among the top cars chosen by Consumer Reports, a vehicle must have an Overall Score among the highest in its category, factoring in road tests, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety. Besides, a top car must come with forward collision warning (FCW) and automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection. Further, in 2022, Consumer Reports has added such a criterion as a highway-speed AEB. For having an active driver assistance system with an adequate driver monitoring system, Consumer Reports adds 2 more points to the Overall Score of a vehicle. Notably, Ford’s Mustang Mach-E is the only vehicle with the points of Consumer Reports this year.
Speaking of Mustang Mach-E, the vehicle is enjoyable to drive due to its quick acceleration, agile handling, and a well-mannered ride. The vehicle’s stable goes from tame pony at 266 hp to wild stallion at 480 hp. Mach-E Premium galloped from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and has a 270-mile range. Other configurations can even extend range to over 300 miles.
Jake Fisher, senior director of automotive testing at Consumer Reports, shared his thoughts about Mustang Mach-E:
“Not only is it a really fun vehicle to drive, it is sporty, but it is also extremely mature. When I say that it rides nice, it is very quiet. I mean it really feels well built.”

Consumer Reports: Ford Mustang Mach-E vs Tesla Model 3
In comparison with Ford’s Mustang Mach-E, Tesla’s Model 3 fails in certain areas. For example, Consumer Reports believes that the camera watching the driver could be better. Besides, the autopilot system also could be more effective.
Jake Fisher explained:
“In our tests we can cover up the camera, we could not look at the road and it really doesn’t give any alerts to the driver to make sure they are looking where they are going.”
However, Consumer Reports still recommends Tesla’s Model 3 thanks to its sports car-like performance, long range, charging network and the technology itself.
