Google Cloud Unveils Ethereum-Compatible Blockchain RPC
ETH2 11

Features and Benefits

The new RPC service supports both the Ethereum mainnet and testnets, facilitating easier integration for Ethereum developers. Key features include:

  • JSON-RPC Compatibility: Fully compatible with the JSON-RPC standard, allowing seamless integration into dApps with minimal coding.
  • Performance Enhancement: Utilizes Google Cloud’s robust infrastructure to improve RPC reliability and performance.
  • Support for Diverse Applications: Suitable for both real-time and data-intensive applications, catering to startups and large enterprises.

Understanding RPC

Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs) are critical in blockchain networks as they allow dApps to access blockchain data and perform essential tasks such as transaction validation and node communication. However, reliability has been a longstanding challenge, with delays or errors in RPCs disrupting dApp operations.

Google Cloud’s Solution

Google Cloud’s Blockchain RPC service addresses these reliability issues by leveraging its advanced infrastructure to enhance performance. The service includes a free tier offering up to 100 requests per second and 1 million requests per day, making it accessible for developers and enterprises alike.

Expert Insights

Kyle Quintal, Head of Engineering at web3 analytics firm 0xArc, praised the RPC service for its “fast response times” and adherence to Ethereum Improvement Proposal 1474 standards.

Future Plans

The Blockchain RPC service is currently available globally in preview. Google Cloud plans to expand support to additional networks and features in the future, continuing its commitment to enhancing blockchain infrastructure.

Previous Web3 Integrations

This launch follows Google’s earlier efforts to integrate web3 capabilities, including the March 2024 incorporation of Ethereum Name Service (ENS) data from Etherscan into Google Search results. Brantly Millegan, a former ENS core developer, showcased how his ENS (Brantly.eth) details were displayed in Google search results, including ETH balance and transaction timestamps.
