OurSong is going to be an avenue whereby those with zero experience navigating the crypto world and the NFT ecosystem can easily get by.
12-time Grammy Award Winner, John Legend is stepping into the world of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) with the launch of OurSong, a platform for musicians and entertainers who are finding it hard to navigate the murky waters of the NFT world. As reported by Bloomberg, OurSong is co-founded with Chris Lin, who runs Taipei-based digital music service KKBOX, Twitch cofounder Kevin Lin and Matt Cheng of early-stage venture firm Cherubic Ventures as part owners of the new business.
While Chris Lin will act as the Chief Executive Officer of the new venture, John Legend will play a frontline role as the Chief Impact Officer to attract up-and-coming artists and their fans. OurSong will help these budding superstars to monetize their work through the issuance of tradable Digital Certificates of Authenticity.
“NFTs hold so much promise in ushering in the next generation of singers, songwriters, photographers, artists, and more,” says Legend in a statement. “I helped found OurSong because I believe NFTs can change the way creators are discovered, improve how they serve their biggest fans, and reshape the industry as a whole. That starts with building a platform that serves all creators, whether they have one hundred fans or one hundred thousand.”
While John Legend has attained the climax of recognition in his music career, he obviously can identify with the struggles of newcomers especially in the presence of emerging technology like that of NFTs.
“It can be really intimidating for an emerging creative who wants to share their art, their work with the world, share their creativity with the world, but they feel like they can’t possibly do something that’s going to be worth that much money,” Legend said in an interview. “Some of them are building that up to a place where they’re even making a living off of their art as students.”
The John Legend Platform to Focus on Ease of Use
OurSong is going to be an avenue whereby those with zero experience navigating the crypto world and the NFT ecosystem can easily get by. According to Chris Lin, the platform will not operate with a cryptocurrency wallet as typical of popular NFT marketplaces such as OpenSea and Rarible. Ease of use will be the ultimate focus of the proposed service the startup will be rendering.
While the platform has other mainstream and established platforms to compete with, OurSong will hopefully carve out its own niche, attract its own creators as well as collectors. With John Legend as one of the top promoters of the platform, his depth of experienced is billed to be deployed in connecting the world through OurSong.
“I’ve always been so focused on music and I still think of music as, far and away, my first love and my first job and the thing I spent most of my mental energy thinking about,” said Legend. “When I think about what I want to do, I try to get involved with projects that I think will make the world more connected.”
