Lens Protocol Could Address Musk’s Concerns About Twitter

After Elon Musk announced that he would acquire Twitter Inc in April, a Finnish crypto developer, Stani Kulechov, made a joke by tweeting that he was chosen to be Twitter’s interim chief executive officer, after which his account was temporarily suspended by Twitter itself.

Kulechov delivered his response to this on Wednesday when he announced that he had built a rival social network based on blockchain technology, which will become available for anyone to access for the first time.

The network is called Lens Protocol. The network allows people to post and follow, but differs from Twitter in one major way: each piece of content is associated with a non-fungible token (NFT), which gives the creator ownership over their own posts.

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, and Musk himself have expressed interest in creating a more decentralized Twitter and open-sourcing its algorithm. The bots on Twitter have especially been a source of concern for Musk.

According to Kulechov, Lens Protocol has the potential to handle many of the concerns that Musk is currently worried about. The Lens Protocol’s blockchain-based tools can help verify identities, prevent spam and present an open system.

Kulechov also revealed that his own less than pleasurable experiences with Twitter, including his temporary ban, helped inform the work on Lens Protocol. Kulechov was quoted saying that “as a user, you’re very much at the mercy of the platforms.”

Added to this, the Lens Protocol team is convinced there is potential for social gaming and music sharing to be added to Lens Protocol, and they are committed to continuing developing the platform.
