Mercedes-Benz stated that the MO360 Data Platform would help in creating a virtual replica of its vehicle manufacturing process.
Luxurious vehicle maker Mercedes-Benz and technology company Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) are coming together to bolster efficiency, resilience, and sustainably in vehicle production. The vehicle company is introducing the MO360 Data Platform and connecting its 30-passenger car plants to the Microsoft Cloud. As a result of the integration with the Data Platform, Mercedes-Benz could offer more transparency and predictability for its supply chain and digital production.
MO360 is a unified data platform, an evolution of the car maker’s digital production ecosystem. It makes it easy to pinpoint potential supply chain challenges “and enable a dynamic prioritization of production resources toward electric and Top-End vehicles.” Additionally, MO360’s standardization on Microsoft Azure offers Mercedes-Benz a lot of flexibility. The company can also access cloud computing power for AI and analytics. At the same time, it focuses on cybersecurity and compliance standards across regions. Already, vehicle company’s teams in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa have access to the unified data platform. As time progresses, the service will spread to China and the US.
Mercedes-Benz and Microsoft Collaborate
Notably, both Microsoft and Mercedes-Benz announced the partnership in separate press releases. The tech giant noted a comment from a member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Production & Supply Chain Management, Joerg Burzer:
“This new partnership between Microsoft and Mercedes-Benz will make our global production network more intelligent, sustainable and resilient in an era of increased geopolitical and macroeconomic challenges. The ability to predict and prevent problems in production and logistics will become a key competitive advantage as we go all electric.
Mercedes-Benz stated that the MO360 Data Platform would help in creating a virtual replica of its vehicle manufacturing process. The Data Platform is currently based at the new Mercedes-Benz Digital Factory Campus Berlin.
Microsoft EVP and chief commercial officer Judson Althoff also had something to say about the new agreement with Mercedes-Benz. He said the relationship further proved the undebatable power of the industrial metaverse. The executive mentioned the integration of the physical and digital worlds to increase value creation. Also, Althoff stated the benefits of Microsoft Cloud to the vehicle company.
Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz’s Chief Information Officer, Jan Brecht, explained:
“With the MO360 data platform, we democratize technology and data in manufacturing. As we are moving toward a 100% digital enterprise, data is becoming everyone’s business at Mercedes-Benz. Our colleagues on the shop floor have access to production and management-related real-time data. They are able to work with drill-down dashboards and make data-based decisions.”
