The announcement revealed that Dapper Labs has agreed with PR company Crossroad Strategies as their lobbying firm.
Amid the fast adoption of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), Dapper Labs has become the first NFT company to federally register to lobby with the US government through a public disclosure on the 3rd of January. With this move, Dapper Labs becomes the latest company to join the list of influencers within the crypto sector looking to influence new crypto policies by Congress. Last year, executives from VC firm a16z sought to guide policymakers in the US on standards for crypto and Web 3.0. Notably, NFTs are fast becoming involved in mainstream culture, and many experts have declared that they are here to stay. In addition, lobbyists are optimistic about future policies as they make efforts to influence decisions by policymakers.
Dapper Labs Registers to Lobby with US Government
The announcement revealed that Dapper Labs has agreed with PR company Crossroad Strategies as their lobbying firm. Crossroad Strategies stated that it would lobby for “Policy related to NFTs, blockchain and financial services.” Also, Dapper Labs has onboarded a new employee to facilitate the lobbying with the US government. In October 2021, the firm recruited Alison Kutler as its new head of government affairs. Before joining Dapper Labs, Kutler was the chief of the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau and special advisor to the chairman of the FCC. The executive occupied the roles between June 2015 and April 2017.
Following the news on Dapper Labs registration, Kutler has also registered to lobby on behalf of the company. The new head of government affairs will now begin to work together with Dapper Labs regarding lobbying with the US government. Aside from a statement from the company’s spokesperson Rachel Rogers, Dapper Labs did not disclose many details about its intentions. Rogers noted that the company wants to promote “education and mainstream adoption of Web3.” She said:
“In this increasingly digital world, we believe in openness, transparency, and equality of opportunity.”
NFTs Become Fundraising Opportunity for Politicians
Furthermore, NFTs have become a fundraising opportunity for politicians who have been releasing their own non-fungible tokens. Former first lady Melania Trump recently released her own NFTs, including a watercolor depiction of her eyes. At the same time, Roger Stone is selling an NFT autographed by Donald Trump. Stone, a longtime associate of the ex-president, said the fundraising campaign would help pay his legal and medical bills.
Also, a Republican candidate for Senate in Arizona, Blake Masters, has rolled out 99 limited editions of NFTs. The artworks are based on the cover art of billionaire investor Peter Thiel. Additionally, a Democratic candidate for Congress in California, Shrina Kurani, is now selling NTs to fund her political campaign. THE candidate is also accepting donations in cryptocurrencies.
As NFT becomes a household name, token sale platform CoinList has announced its first-ever NFL collection dubbed FiatWorks. The firm commissioned artist Case Simmons to curate the NFTs, which will be available to two unique user groups.
