Polygon Surges in March: Now Ranks as Second Largest Gaming Blockchain in Terms of User Activity

Polygon Emerges as Second Largest Gaming Blockchain with Surging User Activity in March

March proved to be a game-changing month for Ethereum layer-2 (L2) Polygon, as it surpassed Hive to become the second-largest blockchain gaming network in terms of unique active wallets (UAWs). According to a recent report published by DappRadar, a leading DApp analytics platform, Polygon recorded a staggering 53% increase in UAWs, reaching 138,081 in March.

This impressive feat puts Polygon ahead of Hive and the BNB Chain, with 84,000 and 80,000 UAWs respectively, while WAX clinches the top spot with a commanding 314,000 UAWs.

Polygon, a blockchain previously known for DeFi DApps, overtook Hive this month and secured the second spot. This is a positive sign for Polygon, as it is now gaining recognition as a gaming blockchain,” notes the DappRadar report.

Hunters On-Chain Game Drives Polygon’s User Activity Surge

A significant contributor to Polygon’s surge in UAWs was the Hunters On-Chain game developed by BoomLand. DappRadar data reveals that the game witnessed a staggering increase of over 17,000% in UAWs in the past 30 days alone.

Launched in January, Hunters On-Chain is a free-to-play RPG with NFT integrations, offering a Web3 adaptation of BoomLand’s popular mobile game, Hunt Royale. With its Minecraft-like look and style, the game hit an all-time high UAW count of around 55,300 on March 9, possibly fueled by anticipation for an in-game NFT sale on March 31.

Bullish Momentum for Polygon in Gaming and NFTs

The recent surge in user activity on Polygon comes amidst growing bullish momentum for the network in the gaming and NFT sectors. Polygon Labs, the team behind the network, has secured notable partnerships with industry giants such as Warner Music, Starbucks, Adidas, Reddit, and Adobe to develop and host NFT projects.

In addition, Polygon Labs successfully launched the open-source Ethereum Virtual Machine equivalent zero-knowledge rollup on March 27. This innovation is expected to enable DApps to scale through transaction batching, resulting in higher performance and reduced gas fees for transactions on the network.

On-Chain Gaming Activity Remains Dominant in DApp Industry

Despite a slight decrease of 3.33% in March, on-chain gaming activity remains a dominant force in the DApp industry, accounting for 45.6% of overall activity in Q1 2023, as highlighted by the DappRadar report.

Polygon’s remarkable performance in March as the second largest gaming blockchain, driven by surging user activity and notable partnerships, underscores its growing recognition as a prominent player in the gaming and NFT space.
