On Saturday, February 26, 2022, UkraineDAO launched to raise funds for Ukrainian civilian organizations. The launch is accompanied by the release of a 1/1 NFT of the Ukrainian flag minted by CXIP. Through a statement by CXIP shared to CoinQuora, the initiative’s purpose is to ‘help those suffering from the war initiated by Putin.’
The launch will run for 72 hours, from February 26 to March 1. Meanwhile, 100% of the proceeds will go to the “Come Back Alive” fund.
Additionally, the launch will involve the creation of a PartyBid to allow donators of any amount to participate. A PartyBid is a tool that allows people to bid collectively, whose winners get a fractionalized ownership of the item. Finally, the donators will receive a Proof of Attendance (POAP) for participating.
UkraineDAO consists of FreeRossDAO’s Alona, PleasrDAO’s CryptoStΞvΞ, Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova, Trippy from Trippy Labs alongside members of their respective communities. Furthermore, CXIP and Moonpay helped to make UkraineDAO possible. The DAO was inspired by the successful fundraising efforts by FreeRossDAO.
CXIP CEO Jeff Gluck said the following about UkraineDAO:
On Thursday, CXIP received news that several of our development partners located in Ukraine had been displaced from their homes and raced to move their families to safety, while some of them remained in Ukraine, trapped and unable to leave. During the past year, these partners have become some of our closest friends– part of the CXIP family and our core team. When Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova and PleaserDAO asked CXIP to create a custom contract for the UkraineDAO NFT initiative, we immediately refocused our efforts to support this critical campaign.
Meanwhile, Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova shared how they avoided adding their own art to the release. According to Tolokonnikova, it wasn’t about their preferred colors but rather about uniting to save lives. Tolokonnikova states: “the Ukraine flag unites us.”
UkraineDAO immediately started forming after the news that the Russian military was invading Ukraine. At that point, the aforementioned members began to organize and bring their community members from different DAOs together.
