Universal Music Group, the world leader in music-based entertainment, has started recruiting hitmakers to create music for Kingship, an NFT-based band consisting of rare Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT artwork. Such producers and songwriters as Hit-Boy and James Fauntleroy have already joined Kingship as its co-executive producers and sonic creative team. They will also collaborate with Arnell, the group’s Mutant DJ and Producer, to oversee Kingship’s music direction and sound.
Universal Music Group’s Initiative
Both Hit-Boy (Chauncey Alexander Hollis) and James Fauntleroy have earlier worked with such stars as Beyoncé, Jay Z, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and Bruno Mars. According to Celine Joshua, head of Universal’s 10:22 PM label, Universal Music Group has tapped these two hitmakers to participate in Kingship due to their talent and great experience in the music industry.
Celine Joshua explained:
“KINGSHIP’s journey is rooted in storytelling, experiences, and music. I’m incredibly thankful that Hit-Boy and James Fauntleroy, two of the most influential and creative geniuses in the entire industry, are coming together to develop the music and sound for KINGSHIP.”
Hit-Boy said:

About Kingship
Kingship was born back in November 2021. This novel virtual music band features Jimmy McNelis’ three Bored Apes and one Mutant Ape, the Golden Fur and Bluebeam Apes included. The band has four members: lead singer Hud, percussionist Arnell, bassist, and vocalist King, and lead guitarist Captain.
The band is supported by a team including 7x Grammy Award-winning record producers, songwriters, artists, a celebrity animator, and well-respected founders.
In July, Kingship sold out the collection of 5,000 access-enabled Key Cards in the form of NFTs. The Cards allow collectors to access the group’s virtual world as well as unlock music, products, experiences, and a token-gated community. The primary selling price set for 5,000 NFTs was 0.19 ETH (about $286 at that time). As a result of the sale, $1.43 million was generated from. The sale took place on the OpenSea NFT marketplace.
