Zynga’s NFT Gaming plans will create more employment roles, such as creative director. The firm plans to expand the blockchain gaming team from the current 15 people to as many as 100.
Game developer Zynga Inc (NASDAQ: ZNGA) has revealed plans to invest in the blockchain gaming sector and release its first non-fungible token (NFT) games. To actualize its NFT games plan, the company will purchase some blockchain firms and partner with others. Zynga began its blockchain gaming push last year with its partnership with blockchain infrastructure company Zynga. Now, Zynga expects to roll out its first NFT games by the end of the second quarter.
Also, the product will offer more partnering opportunities and acquisitions while keeping Zynga’s position as a frequent buyer of game companies. One of the steps Zynga has taken regarding its blockchain game is appointing new executives. An example is Matt Wolf, who came on board as the vice president of blockchain gaming in November. In an interview, he said Zynga is “fully tuned up to do acquisitions on the Web 3 game publisher side”. Notably, the company has a history of growth through acquisition.
Farmville, the popular game Zynga launched on Facebook in 2009 amassed about 10 million active users in six months. Thirteen years on, with active engagement of the gaming world, Zynga is seemingly prepared to move into blockchain gaming. Wolf mentioned that the transition offers “future proofing” for the gaming firm. Granted that Zynga NFT games will be inspired by existing intellectual property, it will not leverage existing titles.
Zynga Expands Team for Coming NFT Games
Furthermore, Zynga’s NFT Gaming plans will create more employment roles, such as creative director. The firm plans to expand the blockchain gaming team from the current 15 people to as many as 100.
Speaking further, Wolf said:
“We know that in order for us to be fast, and be responsible to our company and consumers, we need to surround ourselves with capability, which we can get very quickly through alliances and partnerships. We have to be really careful and actively listen and deeply understand who the cohort is that are consuming these blockchain games right now, who are collecting these NFTs.”
Primarily, the firm focuses on building a community of team members and actively engaged gamers.
Although NFT games purportedly enable users to earn money through play, a higher number of gamers have their reservations. So far, Zynga has not announced any NFT games because gamers have mixed reactions towards blockchain gaming. The company pledged its NFT games would involve blockchain tech with low environmental destruction tendencies, considering the protest against Ubisoft. Zynga’s early blockchain games will target gamers familiar with the genre and who may not be looking for durable footage.
Additionally, Wolf hopes to bring leaders of gaming firms together to form a blockchain gaming council to address NFT games issues.
