  • Justin Sun has been appointed as the WTO ambassador for Grenade.
  • The appointment was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Sun will help to develop a robust digital economy for the region.

Justin Sun has been announced as the new World Trade Organization (WTO) Ambassador by the Government of Grenada to be based in Geneva. Sun, a prominent person in the crypto and blockchain industries, is best known as the founder of TRON, one of the largest and most popular blockchain platforms in the world.

Sun’s fascination with history, socio-political issues, and foreign politics dating back to his childhood eventually led him to major in History at Peking University, where he graduated top in his class. Later on, he attended the University of Pennsylvania for his M.A. in Social Sciences. The TRON ecosystem was founded as a result of Sun’s desire to make blockchain and financial technology accessible to everyone. Notably, Grenada is a key member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Justin Sun states,

It is truly an honor to serve as the WTO ambassador for Grenada. I look forward to the opportunity to represent Grenada and work with WTO leadership to reinvigorate global trade in various ways, particularly the development of a robust digital economy internationally.

The World Trade Organization has predicted that the global commerce slump will be worse than the one caused by the global financial crisis of 2008-09, with merchandise trade estimated to drop 13-32 percent as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak. This shows that his appointment is timely.

Sun’s blockchain expertise would be put to good use, thus pioneering a change in the region’s economy since Grenada and CARICOM have been hammered particularly hard by a Covid-led tourism industry shutdown.
