Storybook Brawl Faces Heavy Backlash Following FTX US Acquisition

  • Storybook Brawl’s Steam page is being review-bombed by unhappy players after the FTX US acquisition.
  • Players who have spent between 60 to 900 hours have left dissatisfied reviews – turning the game’s review score to “overwhelmingly negative.”
  • Some reviewers even suggest completely removing the game from the Steam platform.

Storybook Brawl is having issues with its player base resisting future blockchain or cryptocurrency-related integrations into the game. Players are either boycotting or review-bombing the game on Steam after cryptocurrency company FTX US bought it.

Prior to March 22 – when FTX US acquired Good Luck games – Storybook Brawl had a score of “Very Positive” reviews on Steam. However, at the time of writing this has now flipped to “Overwhelmingly Negative”.

The negative sentiments come from the notion that people are apprehensive about the idea of cryptocurrency, blockchain, and NFTs in traditional games. Users who have spent upwards of 60+ hours on the game share their sentiments about the acquisition.

“Enjoyed the game, but can’t condone NFT in any form. Moving on.”

“Was one of the best autobattlers out there, but crypto is a scam to punk the dumb out of their money and it’s a shame this game was bought out to further that agenda,”

This was a good game…until they made it about NFTs,

Other reviews have also suggested that Storybook Brawl should be delisted from Steam’s library. There have been no comments coming from Valve or FTX about the future of Storybook Brawl on Steam. However, Steam’s rules do not allow “applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow the exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs.”

As a result, Storybook Brawl’s future on Steam could be subject to a second review.

FTX US announced on March 22 the acquisition of Good Luck Games, adding that it was an “opportunity to be the vanguard for the ethical integration of gaming and crypto transactions.” Similarly, Good Luck Games Founder Matt Place assured that the blockchain integration will be “ethical” and “create fun for players”.

Despite those reassurances, players are doubtful about the blockchain integration on Storybook Brawl.
